The Wixey WR360 digital angle gauge has been featured in “Model Engineers Workshop” for an interesting application. The article consists of Howard Lewis’ use of the digital angle gauge as an aid to sharpen drills. He began by using a clamp to set it parallel to the face of the grinding wheel. The aluminium is then milled to a rectangular block, set at 59 degrees with the assistance of the WR360. Once a tip angle of 118 degrees is positioned, the vice is tilted up at 45 degrees for a 90 degree vee to be cut by the end mill. Model Engineers Workshop” describes how our Edge Technology Indicator holder is used to fix a DTI onto a mill.
Peter shares his smart solution for the difficulty of finding a solid fixing point for a DTI on his Alpine mill. He found a spare 3/8” chuck and 3/8” internal thread in his collection and set about fitting the z axis sender mounting, leaving approximately 30mm studding extra.
He then proceed to merely turning down a piece of 12x1.75mm studding. A 3/8” x 24 thread was cut on opposite side of the chuck and they joined together with a 12mm extension nut. This solution allowed him to clamp a range of bracket fittings in addition to this initial purpose.
